A few patrons mentioned that the availability of some special dishes could fluctuate, which might disappoint those who come specifically for them. It's wise to check on daily specials before planning a visit.
Some diners feel the decor, while quirky, could be more refined to enhance its charm further. A few believe it lacks a certain sophistication that some other pubs might offer.
Called on a Thursday afternoon for a pub meal. Not too busy so getting a table was no problem. Extensive menu of pub classics plus some more special dishes available. We had a lamb shank and 20oz gammon. Both meals were excellent and were well cooked, well presented and very tasty. All we could do to finish them. Staff very friendly. Decor is quirky but attractive. Clean and well maintained throughout. Good choice of beers, wines and spirits. Will definitely call again.
Managed to get 2 tables for 12 of us on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Food came out pretty quickly, tasted great and portion sizes were huge! We ordered 2 Japanese Fried Chicken (Karaage), one with chips and one with egg fried rice. The menu had something for everyone with lots of choice. Everyone had a great time, and after dinner we spent about 30 minutes with the kids seeing what we could spot in the fantastic garden over the river! (Giraffes, meerkats, sharks and Darth Vader all being favourites!) Worth noting they do an afternoon tea, but this does need booking 48 hours before- would love to book and come back if I’m ever in the area again! Oh and special mention for the flower baskets! They are stunning!
Lovely spot for some food. Huge, varied and reasonably priced menu with a warm welcome. Concerns with pubs like this is that they feel a bit too local, but as Midlanders we were made to feel right at home. Kaarage chicken was very tasty, would recommend. Also a special mention for the cool garden over the river, as well as colouring books for kids!
Lovely place. Great food and the staff were excellent. Such fair prices for great portions and lovely food. Will definitely be returning when I'm in the area.
We had a party meal here in the middle of October, and 16 of us attended. Service was on point. All the food was brought out to us at the same time. Bar service was very good. Food was also superb, I left a few chips as the 16oz burger was more than a mouthful on its own. My boy had the same, and he ate all his, so it's well worth ordering the burger. Sizzling chicken looked amazing and was sizzling on the hot plate at the table. Fish and chips looked good. A huge fish was served. Kids' meals were also well portioned, and everyone was happy. It was the first time I'd been here, and I will be going back again.
Our friend from Malaysia booked this restaurant. He mentioned that the famous actor Richard Burton lived in the village, and indeed, there were many framed pictures of him displayed on the walls. When we arrived, it wasn't very crowded since it was a Monday, but we had to wait at the bar until a staff member approached us. Our friend got an appetizer. We then ordered a beef burger, ale pie, and I tried the fajitas. The portions were huge, and while we couldn’t finish our meals, they were really good. It was definitely worth visiting this restaurant.
